Philadelphia, PA: Eastern State Penitentiary Day 1

Philadelphia, PA: Eastern State Penitentiary Day 1

October 25 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
2027 Fairmount Ave.
Philadephia, PA 19130 United States

The fight to end solitary confinement is coming home to its American birthplace. Eastern State Penitentiary is where this form of torture was first implemented in the United States, making this stop on the Journey to Justice Tour a significant addition.  Eastern State is now a museum that preserves America’s first penitentiary, advancing public understanding of the criminal justice system and its impact on the lives of those affected by it, to inspire a more just future.

Join the Solidarity Not Solitary Pennsylvania campaign and stand with us on historic Fairmont Avenue. Step aboard the Journey to Justice bus—a ‘Smithsonian-style’ interactive museum designed by directly impacted people to make the human cost of isolation impossible to ignore. Through powerful audio installations, video accounts, and VR, you will hear the unfiltered truths of survivors.

This is a unique opportunity to connect the past to the present. We invite you to experience the bus on October 25th or 26th and then visit the museum to gain a full understanding of solitary and mass incarceration from its origins to our current-day fight to end it.
