Look2Justice is a grassroots-led nonprofit that was born out of both lived experience and a deep moral obligation to dismantle one of the most dehumanizing systems in the United States—the criminal legal system. Our organization is led by system-impacted individuals who have endured the harshest realities of incarceration and emerged as powerful agents of change. We are supported by outside allies who bring organizing, policy, and research experience to the table. Together, we form an inside–outside coalition determined to reimagine what justice can look like in Washington State and beyond.
Unlike many organizations that operate from a distance, we are deeply embedded in the very communities we serve. Our work is rooted in authenticity, informed by the wisdom of those who have been directly harmed by systemic injustice, and driven by the belief that transformation is only possible when the people closest to the problem are the ones leading the solution. We combine grassroots advocacy, policy reform, public education, and narrative storytelling to push for a legal system that prioritizes equity, dignity, and healing over punishment and control.
We don’t just speak about change—we embody it. Our work spans prison walls, legislative halls, media publications, and community centers, forging a new future grounded in truth, justice, and humanization. Look2Justice is not merely a campaign or coalition—it is a movement led by people whose lives prove that redemption and reform are not only possible but necessary.
Washington State’s criminal justice system discards lives, especially the lives of young Black and Indigenous People of Color, without a second look. Justice demands more.
At Look2Justice, our mission is to radically shift how society understands and responds to harm, accountability, and community safety. We are committed to:
Through our programming and policy efforts, we aim to create a justice system that acknowledges humanity, promotes accountability without dehumanization, and builds genuine community safety based on opportunity, investment, and care—not cages.
At the center of everything we do is our inside–outside organizing model. This model is not just a tactic—it’s a philosophy of leadership, equity, and accountability. We believe that those most impacted by the criminal legal system—people who are currently incarcerated or have served time—must be at the forefront of any effort to reform or dismantle that system. We pair their lived experience with the skills and resources of allies on the outside to amplify their voices and enact change that is bold, informed, and deeply personal.
This collaborative model ensures:
We are committed to advancing evidence-based policies that prioritize outcomes and equity. While our movement is powered by emotion and urgency, it is also anchored in research, data, and proven models. We consult with legal experts, researchers, and community organizations to design legislative proposals that not only feel right but are empirically supported.
We center our work around the historically marginalized communities most disproportionately affected by the criminal legal system—particularly Black, Indigenous, and youth populations. We confront head-on the racist underpinnings of sentencing laws, youth incarceration practices, and the school-to-prison pipeline. Our policies and programming aim to:
We believe that young people, especially those from historically excluded communities, deserve second chances and opportunities for growth—not lifelong punishment for early mistakes.
